Aurora R3 Windows 10 anniversary update warm boot issues back

After installing the Windows 10 anniversary update, which required the old hard-boot-between-stages trick to install, I find my Alienware Aurora r3 won't reboot properly any more and hangs during the windows loading process.  Previously I was able to fix this by reinstalling the Intel Chipset and Renesas USB3 drivers, but that doesn't seem to work this time.  Has anyone had any success solving this issue with the anniversary update?

Hi,

Unfortunately, according to the policy document, the Alienware Aurora R3 will not be supported on Windows 8, 8.1 or 10. Some users have successfully installed Windows 10 on these non-supported system, but they did all the driver investigation to force it to work. Dell does not have the resources to do this on non-supported systems. You could also try posting this on the Notebook Review and Alienware Arena forums for assistance.

After installing Windows 10 Anniversary update, I manually updated to an older version of the Renesas USB 3.0 driver (Ver 2.1.28.0) using Device Manager and can now perform a warm reboot on my Aurora R3 without any problems.

Good troubleshooting. Thanks for reporting the work-around.

Every time the update process restarts your computer.  For me I believe it happened at around 25% and 75%. Be sure to do it as soon as it restarts but not before it shuts down.

What's the procedure for this?  I apparently have version 10.0.14393.0 installed.  I tried right-clicking the device in device manager and clicking 'Uninstall', then installing the older driver (from both Renesas_Integrated-USB-3-0_A00_R286402.exe downloaded from Dell and USB3.0_allOS_2.1.28.0_PV.exe from softpedia) only to find that I have version 10.0.14393.0 installed again, and the system still hangs on reboot :(

In Device Manager:

- Select "Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller"

- Under the Driver Tab Select "Roll Back Driver"

- Choose Version 2.1.28.0

Magavro,

Sorry but I did not pay close enough attention to the update process to answer this other than to say I did a hard restart every time the update process restarted.  If you are stuck at a blank screen, you may wish to try restarting again.... but be warned... I do not know how, when, or what restarting during the update process will affect your system.

As a second option, try disabling or rolling back your Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Driver before starting the update process.  Check using Device Manager to see what version you are currently running. If its Version 10, then try rolling it back to Version 2.1.28.0.

After successfully updating I have driver 10.0.14393.0.

The "Roll Back Driver" button is greyed out :(

The restart points are at 30% and 75%. And they're on the 2nd step of the process when it says "Your PC will restart several times" at the bottom.

I haven't found a way to roll back the renesas usb driver as the "Roll Back" button is disabled and windows just says I already have the latest driver when I attempt to manually install an older one.

So I just disabled it and all my usb devices still work and I can restart without issues.

So I guess that's an option.
