I've just received my Alienware M17x-r3 via the Dell outlet with a GTX 560M and the 1080 3D screen, but I am unable to get any 3D functionality. Under the Nvidia Control Panel there is no "Stereoscopic 3D" section in the menu, and clicking the "Enable 3D" from the start menu has no affect.
Directly clicking some of the executables in the 3D Vision folder tells me that the 3D is not enabled or that the screen doesn't support 3D.I have tried this with the latest driver from the Dell site and the latest direct from nVidia, both having no 3D functionality as described above.
Looking at the downloads on the dell support site I came across this <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>which is an updated vBios for the card which I read somewhere else should solve this issue. I've followed the instructions and attempted to flash the bios but to no success, with the following feedback (Notice the error right at the end):
GPU-Z Reports this (again somewhere I saw that the latest bios should be A2:
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
In the upper bar, click Owners Club, click Alienware Club. Join the Club. Let me know when you do this so I can move this post into that board.
Just to be clear, you followed these instructions and got the error?
* Download the vbios driver
* Insert a Blank CD or DVD.
* To burn the file, Right click the ISO file and choose "Open With" and choose "Windows Disc Image Burner"
* Restart the Computer and press F12 when the Alien Logo appears, choose from the Boot Menu the Optical Drive
* The system will boot up from the disc and start the vbios flash
* When it finishes, the computer will keep in a DOS environment, take out the disc, at this point turn off the computer and start up again
* Uninstall and Reinstall the video card
Hi Chris, many thanks for your reply. Regarding the joining the club I'm unable to find the Join button. Click on the Alienware Club in the drop-down from Owners Clubs takes me to the club page but I can't see how to join.
Yes those are the instructions I followed. Note I burned via Roxio rather than "Windows Disc Image Burner", is this important/
I thought on the right middle side of the Alienware Club page was a "join"? Once I joined, it no longer appears. I don't know about the roxio question. Can you try it burning another CD using the Windows app?
Join the group buttons were removed from the boards.
Original poster, If you have solved your problem, can you please mark the correct thread(s) with your solution. Thanks

A bit of clarification please regarding "* Uninstall and Reinstall the video card". Is this uninstalling the driver then reinstalling, or via the device manager?
Correct. Uninstall the driver via Control Panel Programs and Features, then restart, then reinstall the driver.
Hi, I have the same issue. I'm not seeing how uninstalling and reinstalling the driver fixes the Error on the VBIOS update.
Alienware M17-R1 | Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40 GHz | 4.00 GB DDR3 | ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 (1440x900) | Windows 7 - Professional (64-bit)
Alienware M17x-R3 | Intel Core i7 2720QM 2.20 GHz | 8.00 GB DDR3 | nVidia GeForce GTX 460M (1920 x 1080) | Windows 7 - Ultimate (64-bit)
After you do the vbios update, the instructions state to remove and reinstall the drivers. In the other case we are trying to figure out if the original CD image was messed up by using Roxio instead of windows.
