I just got an Alienware 51 R2 with 6950x processor (yes, eating noodles now for a year ;) . I assume the motherboard is similar (99x chipset) but I can confirm it works well on A08. Speed is super fast now and I use it as a boot drive.
As a fyi, I installed the "Samsung 950 PRO, 512Gb M.2" in a "Lycom DT-120 M.2 PCIe to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter". At first, I installed it in the 4x PCI slot and speed was around 1654/1560 read/write. After reinstalling into a 16x PCI slot, there was a massive speed boost. 2553/1559 read/write. Notice the write stayed about the same. The original SSD is a Liteon 512Gb SATA. 558/533 read/write. I use it as a storage now.
For cloning the SSD partitions to the Samsung 950 Pro M.2, I used this video. It worked flawless.

Just make sure to install the M.2 into the16x slot. 8x might work as well. Don't worry about checking it in BIOS, it won't show. Start Macrium Reflect and you will see the drive. Clone and restart. Set the boot order.
In windows, it was a bit confusing since there is two identical drives at first. I installed Samsung Magician to confirm the drive and ran the tests + confirmed the M.2 ran from the C:

@timpiph thanks for confirming that the A08 bios supports the 6950x, been looking at this CPU for some time (pre release) and hoped as it is a X99 chip it would be supported (which it seems to be). I remembered reading something in the A08 release that it supported the 6950x chip so worth mentioning that the A08 is probably required prior to CPU upgrade, did you have the CPU factory fitted or own upgrade post recovering the area 51 R2?

I also have the 10 core chip and 1080 card with 64gb ram. I have two samsung 950s in the two remaining x16 slots. Built the machine with the cpu already included. Updated the ram after market. Running a corasir hx1000i . The ax1500i does not work on this mobo.
