Dual external monitor with Alienware 17 R3

Disconnect the monitor connected to the USB Type C port and run this firmware update here.

Just remember that the laptop's HDMI works with the Nvidia card and the USB Type C port works with the Intel.

I've updated the firmware and it still did not detect the 2405FPW monitor.

I've tried running U3415W on the Type C port with displayport adapter and it works fine, and the 2405FPW also worked fine with HDMI out with a DVI/HDMI adapter, but like you said, HDMI is running off the nvidia chip, which is what I want for the main monitor U3415W, and letting the secondary monitor like 2405FPW run off intel video would be better.

With 2405FPW connected to the Type C port with displayport adapter (I used to use 2405FPW with a Thinkpad W520, which is why I got that displayport to DVI cable), windows still did not detect 2405FPW, and the monitor itself thinks the computer is off and tells me to power it up.  Any ideas?

Looks like only Display Port 1.2 or higher supports the USB type C port. The monitor that you're using is Display Port 1.1
