Error 8714: Firmware update not initiated due to file open or read failure

Hi,

i have an alienware x51 R1 and i have bios version A12

i downloaded the new bios A14 and copied the file onto a dos boot USB stick.

when i boot up with dos and run the bios exe file, it says it has a new version, gives me the choice to hit Y or X to update or exit, when i hit Y

it says checking firmware parameters then gives the error in the title.

any idea why is that? what am i doing wrong?

please help
