For those with a 525w PSU

If you have a 525w PSU on your i7 system this thread is for you. I just spent 2 hours on the phone with Alienware Technical support convincing them that the 525w should have never been offered on a i7 3.2ghz overclock configuration. They have scheduled a service for me tomorrow to get my PSU upgraded to the 875w that are now shipping standard with i7 Aurora's. It was a blatant mistake and they know it. You just need to force the issue on the phone. Just a heads up.

Bios A10

Re: For those with a 525w PSU

I have the i7 960 running at 3.2, do you think I need the bigger power supply? How do I get them to upgrade it?

Re: For those with a 525w PSU

What were your arguments against the 525w PSU?  I have an i7 920 2.66ghz.  I'm wondering if the same will apply to my system.  Thanks for the heads-up.

Re: For those with a 525w PSU

Teegale, All,

After reviewing the case notes and looking at the 3rd party eXtreme Power Supply Calculator misleading results, we have come to the conclusion that the technician erred in upgrading Teegales power supply. Our Aurora 525w power supply is validated to run all of the offered i7 CPUs and video cards. Dell Technical Support has been notified to not allow this illegal upgrade.

Re: For those with a 525w PSU

I have the Aurora i7-920 with the 525w power supply and have constant problems with the system.  Can I get a free upgrade even though my warranty has expired?  I told dell of my issues while my computer was under warranty and spent many hours with the wonderful technical support, that they never could fix.
