Having an Issue with my X51 R1 (Possibly Graphics Card or Processor)

First Issue I'm having with my X51 R1, I'm hoping to upgrade my graphics card for christmas but I'm having an issue with black screens lately, when i CTRL ALT DELETE or if I alt tab out of a game or am loading into a game, they arent happening a lot, just once or twice a week, but I get a black screen, I can hear my music/game/curse voice still, and talk to my friends in voice chat, but I cant see anything, just a black screen, only way to fix it is a hard restart on my PC. Is this telling me my GPU is about to take a ***? Or could it be my Processor? I can't afford a whole new PC right now, and this would be a huge bummer if its my Processor. Also, are there any good monitoring apps that I can use in the background to monitor my temp/fan speed? Also what is the normal temperature for this to run at? Its the GTX 555. Thank you ahead of time for all the help.

Hmm... if you are using an HDMI cable, have you tried using the top HDMI port and just doing some daily tasks? You won't be able to game well since the iGPU (it's a part of the processor) isn't as powerful as the GTX 555, but if nothing goes wrong, then you don't need a GPU replacement but a GPU upgrade.

You can use HWMonitor or HWInfo to monitor temperatures. If it's over 85 C on the GPU, then there's a problem. But if I may ask, have you cleaned your computer's internals?

I have not cleaned my internals since I bought the PC, which was about 5 years ago, I actually never thought of that until now, Could that be the issue? And no I'm not running on HDMI.

Downloaded CPUID HWMonitor and everything is around 60 C. So cleaning my PC and then upgrading my Graphics card to a 960, would that help?

Well it would be best to check if the GPU is the problem. Buying a GTX 960 and calling it a day may not be the solution, though without an HDMI, this makes things a bit difficult.

Also, report temps of a game running, not when the computer is idle (though 60 C in general does sound a bit high).

It's also good to do some periodic maintenance / cleaning to your computers as they will collect dust and the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU may dry up.

How do I check to make sure the GPU is the problem? 60 C was with a game running.

... 60 C on the GPU when a game is running? That would be some great temperatures then.

Or some other component that is 60 C? It might be best to post a screenshot of which monitoring software you used.

Okay, did a load test by running a game for awhile on maxed graphics, and im sitting around 79-80 C. I'm assuming If I played an even more graphically heavy game it would go up more. Going to clean the internals at some point this week. Am I looking at a graphics card problem or?

Doesn't seem like it, but one can't be too sure. You can always uninstall your graphics drivers and reinstall them (use DDU to uninstall graphics drivers), and see if that helps.

I just actually installed the newest drivers, what kind of problem does it look like?
