I am Trying to upgrade my Alienware Aurora R4 - Looking to upgrade the CPU and GPU
My current build is:
OS - Windows 10 64 bit - Creators Edition
CPU - i7 3820 @ 3.6 Ghz
RAM - 32GB DDR3 @ 1866Mhz
Motherboard - Alienware 07JNH0
GPU - 2 x GTX 660 (SLI)
Storage - 240GB SSD w/ 1TB Data Drive
Bios Version - A11
I am looking to upgrade my PC. I understand the power supply only has a 6 pin connection for the GPU and that LGA2011 is the CPU currently installed. I am wondering if the A11 Bios update allows me to use LGA 2011v3. Also what is the best GPU I could get for a reasonable price with a 6 pin power connecter that would work in this PC?

LGA 2011 and 2011-3 are physically incompatible.
with one x 6 Pin PCIe Connector you can install GTX 1050, 1050TI, Radeon RX 460, 470, 560 and 570.
does the PSU have two additional 4 Pin IDE Connectors? you could use them for an 8 Pin PCIe Connector Adapter.

I suggest you look inside.
If you have the (sometimes optional) 875watt PS, there should be a least one 8-pinner ready to go.
Due to power and cooling requirements, I would move to a "single-card" config.

you might be right. i thought he wants a Single Card.
in that Case. there are no current Cards with 6 Pin Power and SLI Connector available. all GTX 1050, 1050TI and 1060 have no SLI Connector. so you're stuck with GTX 950 SLI or AMD 460 - 570 Crossfire.

GTX 1050 TI would be a good upgrade that doesn't require any other upgrade.
1050 cards however do not support SLI.

wrong again. GTX 1050TIs do not Support SLI either.
you must be doing it on Purpose. you are apparently an Expert. at some Point, People who don't know it better will trust you and buy wrong Stuff. do you really have Troubles to understand it?

I disagree. I said 1050 cards to include the 1050 and the 1050TI.
Unsure what the implication is of "wrong stuff".
The 1050 TI is fine. AFAIKT the 1050 and 1060 series cards do not support SLI.
(It was never indicated that they did) 2x 1070 or 1080 would definitely need
a new power supply.
SLI can achieve higher FPS only when the software supports SLI, however this
also causes micro-stutter and other issues that can make the experience on
SLI feel more sluggish than on a single GTX 680.
The GTX 1050 Ti is slightly faster than the GTX 680.

i know. that is what you always do.
don't play Dumb with me. you thought the other Cards do Support SLI and now you are trying to cover up the Mess.
listen, i am working with Computer Hardware for 16 Years now. so if i tell you that the Cards don't Support SLI or that the PSU is good enough, then you can take it to the Bank!
Number 1 Rule on the Internet is "Don't Feed the Troll", and that is what i'm gonna do from now on. if the Moderation Team does not care about your dayly false Statements, than why should i?

For what it's worth I do have the larger PAY with liquid cooling. I believe it is 875W

I am Sorry about the Thread turning into a Mess.
like i said, you can go SLI with GTX 950 or Crossfire with Radeon RX 460 - 570. but maybe you should consider to go with just one Card. if you have more Questions, i'm sure Tesla1856 can answer them. i'm gonna quit now before the Thread gets worse and eventually locked. sorry again.

No worries. Although having SLI isn't a big deal if a 10 series would work, be better than my dual 660s and still be compatible with my pc and it's power connections.

I do have the 875W as I opted for the larger PSU with liquid cooling. I'm not exactly a hardware person and with the pc so full as it is with 2 660s I'm thinking getting at the PSU may prove to be difficult. I will take a look though. Keep in mind this pc was purchased in 2013.

1. Good. Then you are all set to install a single 1070. 1080, or 1080-TI. That machine will hold a MSI Gaming-X card (with larger enhanced cooler). That's what I have in my old Aurora-R1 (from 2010).
The Dell 875w PS has TWO 8-pinners and plenty of Amps on 12v rails
-----P14 (6 pin)
\---P15 (6+2= 8 pin)
-----P16 (6 pin)
\---P17 (6+2= 8 pin)
2. There is no need to "get to PS". The 8-pinners are likely already run to old cards, and if not, you just remove the little black PS cover and carefully fish-out the proper cables that have been tucked away.
