M14x r2 track pad problem Windows 8
the track pad is unstable and unresponsive sometimes. sometimes it is fine. there is no hardware defects I guess. Should I update firmware or driver?

or is there any option to replace this without changing the entire palm rest?

Updating the drivers could help you out, the palmrest assembly has the touchpad embedded.
