M17X R3 GPU replacement
Hello, I received an R3 from a friend of mine. The only problem is it has no GPU, the original was the 580M. It has a 3D 120Hz screen so I cant boot it up otherwise I get 8 beep codes due to the built in Intel HD 3000 not being able to display at that output, only at 60Hz.
I would like to place an AMD 6970 in the laptop but I am wondering since I am unable to download any ATI drivers before installing it, if it will natively display windows at 120Hz then I install ATI drivers or am i forced to purchase an Nvidia card?

No AMD GPUs will work with the 120 Hz display. You can only use Nvidia GPUs.
That said, you could get something like a GTX 680m or GTX 780m (if you have the money, that is).

Why is it that I can only use an Nvidia card by the way, is it BIOS related or something?
Thanks for the answer also, it looks like Ill be getting a 580M or 680M then.
