M17x-R4, Windows 8.1 update, GPU load
Hello all,
I recently updated my m17x R4 to Windows 8.1 and since doing so have experienced a few issues. The first was that at random times my AMD Radeon 7970 would experience 99% load, even when I had no applications open (persisting for ~ 5 minutes). In an effort to remedy this, I ensured I had all the latest drivers from Dell for Windows 8.1, and then updated the BIOS to A13. Directly after the BIOS update I started getting BSODs when attempting to put my computer to sleep (minidump attached). All in all it appears that the dell drivers for the AMD Radeon 7970 are a bit buggy in 8.1. As I write this the Catalyst Control Center is taking up 84% of my computers CPU. If anyone has experienced something similar to this and has a solution I'd be quite interested to hear it!
Cheers,
Warren Spencer

I was having strange graphic issues recently with my m17x r4. I usually use the AMD drivers directly off the AMD website. I was running catalyst 13.4. I tried installing 13.9 and for some reason they would not install on the laptop. The installer would say it completed successfully but catalyst control center would say I was still running 13.4 drivers. I decided to try some beta drivers from the AMD site. I uninstalled ALL AMD software using the remove programs control panel in windows. Then went ahead with the beta install. End result is a huge smile on my face! 300 point increase in 3dmark 11 and far smoother framerates in every game i tested it on.
Heres the link to the 13.11 B9.2 drivers.

Also try updating your chipset drivers from intel using the automatic driver updater.

Hope this helps. I have never been happier with my M17x R4!
