Nvidia GTX 970 or 980 for Aurora R3? Upgrading system from GTX 545

I've got an Aurora R3 with a GTX 545 that I'd like to upgrade.  Can this system support a GTX 970 or 980?

I also recently pulled a 250gb SSD from a macbook air I was thinking of connecting with a USB to SATA cable adapter, and using it for a Windows 10 system drive.  Any issues with doing that?

Your system can handle the GTX 9xx series as long as the power supply has enough juice.  Do you know what the wattage rating is on your PSU?

The GTX 980 draws about 165 Watts by itself.  NVidia recommends a minimum 500W PSU.  This assumes a reference card; the power requirements will be higher for non-reference cards.

When judging your PSU, keep in mind all the other things drawing power from the PSU including drives, CPU, even the case lighting.

Why are you planning to connect that SSD via USB?  You will lose any performance gain that the SSD provides connecting via the slower USB port.

Have to agree with spaceengineer. There's little point with the SSD through a USB enclosure. You have enough SATA ports in the computer to make it an internal drive.

As for the GPU, you should be fine. The Aurora ships with either a 525w PSU or 875w PSU.

You're right. Duh.  I'm not sure what version of SATA is in the box.  I'm seeing some hard-drive-type enclosures to mount the SSD into.  Something like this?

OK.  I think it's the 800+ watt, but it might be the 500+ watt PSU.  Thanks!

                    That should be fine.

I think it might be SATA III, but I also think it may be SATA II. Best to check the manual.

The Aurora R3 has two SATA III ports and two SATA II ports, if I am not mistaken.  SATA II should be used for the DVD drive, save the SATA III for your HDD and SSD.

R494D is the Dell way.  It snaps into the dell carrier. and it holds 2 drives not 1.  You cannot boot a windows system drive from USB.

Windows 2 Go is something else entirely and is only available for Enterprise Editions of windows.
