Shutdowns during idle state

Over the past 2 weeks I've been coming home from work or waking up from sleep to find my computer rebooted. When I log back into windows I get the "an unexpected shutdown has occured" pop up. The computer never reboots while I'm using it. I can game for hours or whatever and nothing. Something seems to be messed up with the idle state. Any suggestions on finding the root of the problem?

Check your Event Viewer logs to find the offending Process or Service.

It should lead you in the proper direction for further trouble-shooting (once you know what is causing it).

Dell Diagnostics will check all your hardware (including the RAM) from outside Windows.

This can be caused by faulty RAM. I would download Prime95 http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4363&file=5&evp=ffc2a25c3011b055346f699a0c02444e and run the blend test for a hour and a half to make sure your ram is ok.
