Surround Sound Output

I have an Alienware X51 R3.  It's connected to my TV and surround sound by HDMI.

The NVDIA control panel will only give an option to output the L-R channels.  My previous Dell PC would output 5.1 through HDMI.  Is there a way to configure this system to output 5.1?

Sounds normal to me. HDTV's usually only have 2 speakers.

Using HDMI cable is correct.

I bet if you connect to AVR or Amp (with 5.1 or 7.1 speakers) it will show more speakers.

Other PC's I have will give the option for surround sound through HDMI.  Most receivers have the ability to decode a 5.1 signal that comes through an HDMI.   This PC won't, so it's not normal based on my past experience.

If you have an AVR (recent model with HDMI), it should work.

If you require further assistance, you will have to describe all components and machines (makes and models). Also, how you have it wired, and which plugs, ports, and cables you are using.

If it's still not working properly it might be a config or programming issue on the computer or even the AVR or HDTV.
