U2711 & M17x DisplayPort issue
I have an Alienware m17x which I'm trying to connect through DisplayPort (miniDP -> DP -> Monitor) to my Dell U2711. When I connect the two and set the display to the U2711s native resolution the screen starts flickering and blacking out.
I plugged my notebook into my friends U2711 and it works perfectly
I plug his desktop into my monitor it works perfectly
I use his cable and my miniDP to DP adaptor with my notebook and screen it fails
I use my cable, his adaptor with my screen and notebook it works perfectly
I use any combination of cables and adaptors with his desktop and my screen I don't get any flicker
Only when it's my screen and my notebook do I get this result. The only difference I can find between the two monitors is that his was manufactured a month after mine.
My laptop has an AMD HD6990M GPU, running Win 7 x64

It sounds like your saying your minDP to DP is the culprit?? Test your M17x, your cable, his adaptor (what is it?) and your U2711.

No, I've used 2 different miniDP adaptors, 2 different DP cables, 2 different computers and 2 U2711 monitors. Every combination of cables, adaptors, monitors and computers work except when it's my m17x and my U2711
