Upgrading x51 PSU and GPU?

Hi,

I just bought the x51 (http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-AX51R2-5726BK-X51AX51R2-5726BK-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B00FE8MJSO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404271057&sr=8-1&keywords=x51). I've been a bit disappointed with the performance (running Watch_Dogs on lowest settings and still getting lag issues). I'm looking to upgrade to the R9 270x, but the measly 240 watt external power supply doesn't seem to be up to the challenge.

I found a post on this topic here: http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19579742.aspx but didn't see anything specific on how to upgrade the PSU. I also wanted to double-check that my X51 will be compatible with the R9 270x.

How can I upgrade the PSU and where can I get the right replacement?

Thanks for the help!

Edit:

Yes, The R9 270X is the fastest video card supported for this model. However, the video card from that link won't fit the X51 R2.

The largest dimensions supported in the X51 R2 are 9,5" length, 4.376" height. The dimensions for this video card according to Amazon are:

Product Dimensions: 10.2 x 5.1 x 1.5 inches

Note: The 330W AC adapter should be enough for the R9 270 or the R9 270X.

Hi!

First, I recommend you go through the troubleshooting steps in this article to check if the problem is related to drivers, PCIe gen3 or overheating.

Regarding the upgrade, the AMD R9 270 is compatible with the X51 R1 but you'll need the 330W AC adapter. You can purchase the adapter at the Dell Shop here

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you so much for the speedy reply. Is this the right one http://www.amazon.com/MSI-R9-270X-DisplayPort-PCI-Express/dp/B00FR6XP6I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404335208&sr=8-1&keywords=AMD+R9+270x? The reason I ask is a couple reviewers recommend 500 watt or 450 watt PSUs.

Is the 270x the best it gets for the x51? Or are there better GPUs available?

Awesome, both are on the way. Thank you so much for the help!
