setting power options to high performance does nothing

you obviously do not understand skylake.

i7 6820hk Hyper-Threading clocked at 2.7 - 3.6 GHz (4 cores: max. 3.2 GHz, 2 cores: max. 3.4 GHz)

if you want higher frequency, you have to do it manually in bios. don't waste your time with AW factory level 1, 2, 3 nonsense.

with dell's clock speed for the cpu, the alienware laptops are not running to their full potential...

instead of arguing and whining on topic you are clueless. please do further research skylake how turbo boost of 1, 2, 4 cores works.

Enter the BIOS > advance > and look for an option that says: Intel speed step, this should be enable. Then Performance options > enable CPU performance.

You obvious do not understand intel skylake/kaby lake architecture Eimy.

This topic of discussion is ridiculous.

The intel 6820hk turbo boost to 3.2ghz is where it supposed to be since all 4 cores are running at that time. Stock turbo boost cannot go higher since that's where it's supposed to be.

3.6GHz is achieved when only 1 core is running. Which is unlikely since most modern apps and Windows 10 always utilize multicore process.

Turbo Boost is a technology implemented by Intel in certain versions of its processors that

enables the processor to run 1 Core above its base operating frequency via dynamic control

of the processor's clock multiplier rate.  Processor generations supporting this feature are based on the Nehalem (Turbo Boost 1.0),  Sandy Bridge (Turbo Boost 2.0), Ivy Bridge, Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake, Kabylake and Broadwell-E (Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0) microarchitectures.

The increased SINGLE CORE clock rate is LIMITED by the processor's power, current and thermal limits, as well as the number of cores currently in use and the maximum frequency of the active cores.

Find more information on Intel® products with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology ›

Processors with the same model number running under the same operating conditions will see frequency or power variance.
