Alienware R4 crashed updating from A10 to A11 bios

I'm really disappointed!

yesterday I downloaded the A11 update. Started updating, passed the 75% progress, I eared a metallic sound from audio card, the screen became black and fan started 100% load....

I tried everything: removing cmos battery, resetting the board, removing the power cable for 1 hour

None of this method worked.

surely corrupted bios, i've started the nightmare of searching a new mobo

mine is 7JNH0 rev A02, in Italy this part is unavailable. I've found in US a seller that have  rev A00, but I don't know the differences. From what i know, now the R4 are shipped with Rev A03. Maybe just bios difference? Please help

Just in case you need tha. I bought the R4 with ALX on october 2012, now is out of commercial warrenty, but in europe we have 24 months legal warrenty that cover defects of productions of the components. Should i request a warrenty RMA?

The Aurora doesn't start at all. When i push start button I ear a beep, ( this code means motherboard failure) so no video signal.  I see the hdd light is on and then beep continously. I can't recover anythings

Do you have a boot recovery disc to use?  If not you can try Kaspersky 10 recovery download it here.  Its free and has worked for me 10 plus times.

Did you make one?  If so then its straight forward.  Start computer and Press F12 until boot options come up.  Put in DVD or Flash drive with boot info on it.

When you get into windows.  If you do.

  1. make a backup
  2. grab a new copy of the BIOS and CHIP SET drivers.
  3. Go to device manager and roll back the BIOS drivers if you can.
  4. Get the windows error report in event view while your there.
  5. Gab anything else you might need.
  6. Roll back to a restore point if you have one.  Or load a backup from earlier.
  7. Lastly, type in run
    1. msconfig [enter] don't type the brackets or enter.
    2. under the boot tab select safe-mode.
    3. Click Apply, it will ask you if you want to reboot, if you do then do it, if not then wait.
  8. let it boot to safe mode, if it does then that is good, means your BIOS is playing nice.
  9. Then go to MSconfig again, and under boot unselect safe mode and restart.
  10. Hit F12 or F8, and go to bios.
  11. Make a copy if it allows, and make sure items like, admin password, system password, secure boot etc are all off. (can cause upgrades to hang)
  12. Now save and exit and let it boot.
  13. Follow the directions on dells support site for upgrading your CHIPset drivers, then BIOS, then all other drivers.  That is usually the issue, either that, or the secure boot or a password stopped the update in the middle.

Remember the order

Chipset

Bios

all others.

good luck

does the screen stay black but turn ON?  Or is it dead black, meaning no glow at all?

Here are a few solutions.

First power off, take out the battery and press the power button down without the battery in.  15 to 30 sec.  Drains the flea power, allows CMOS to reset.

Try to start.  No go try this

8.   Resetting the System Setup (BIOS)
  to its Default Settings

Option 1:

  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
  3. On the System Setup screen, press the key to move to the Exit menu.
  4. Press the key until Restore Defaults is highlighted, and press the key.
  5. Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Option 2:

  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
  3. On the System Setup screen, press the key.
  4. Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Still no go then try this.  By Microsoft from their website.  Find it here.

For this process ANY Vista or WINDOWS 7 disc will work.  So if you have another computer around grab it, make a disc or USB and plug in and boot.  That is the point also of the Kaspersky 10 disc.  You make it, put in on a USB.  Insert it, and hit power.  It should default to the USB after it cannot find the HD.

Both of the tools work, even if the BIOS is acting weird you can usually get a boot to BIOS or a command prompt.  If you do STOP there, and dont do a thing.  Ask for help

The monitor  stay black.

No way to recover a BIOS crash from what i know. Only factory can reprogram the ROM chip were BIOS is located. At this point I want to know if i can call for Dell for legal warrenty since surely the mobo bricked for a program that they have made to reprogram it. The Aurora was working good before except for fan loudness, since they claimed A11 to be an important update I've done it and their program corrupted the bios of my mobo

Same thing happened to me. A11 BIOS update, offered by their system detect, turned my motherboard into a paperweight. I ordered a new (used) motherboard off eBay. Rev is different (A00 instead of A02)

But it seems to work fine. Dell had NO repair parts in the US - they suggested eBay. I will never trust Dell again. This is a 27 month old computer, and very expensive. Dell's support and quality control on the BIOS update are far below the standard they should be. It was hard to reach their support, and when I did they took no responsibility and could offer no help.
