M17x-R4 GPU Issues. GTX 675m Round 2.
It has come to my attention that despite our efforts to resolve this issue correctly from a representative from Dell/Alienware, the original thread was taken down.
If Chris M., the employee who was responsible for closing the thread down, or if any other employees, could please forward this on-going issue to whom would be responsible for addressing such issues like these, then that would be greatly appreciated.
I understand the post may be a year old. I understand also that the 675m along with the 680m are both outdated technology, however, the fact of the matter that this gpu issue is still lingering around is compelling evidence in the sense that nothing seemed to get fixed nor was it ever resolved with anyone who had experienced this problem. Records show, from a simple google search of similar issues, that this problem is persistent with Nvidia Gpus (some posts date back to 2008).
Unfortunately, the buck has to stop here. I already have contacted Nvidia on the matter and they do not recognize this specific GPU due to it being a "custom-made" one for the Alienwares. Please don't leave us in the dark like this. It's not fair for those who have invested time, hopes and money into these machines.
Again, I am linking to the original post that was closed:

Yes I am having exactly the same issue on my M17x-R4 with GTX 675m .Blue Screen of Death. Now I also did have a SATA drive sector issue. I replaced my SATA 500 with a pair of Crucial MX200 SSD.Set up as RAID-0. Machine flys, full boot in 6 seconds.
Soon as I try any GPU loading (games) B S O D !!! tried everything to stop it, from removing and reinstalling unit, and drivers and repeating. I'm very unsure what to do at this point if its the MB or GPU. Dont mind spending cash to upgrade, but want to make sure it does something to fix issue.
On top of that what GPU can i upgrade to.

I have found a solution , my laptop havent closed ever since , I de clocked my GPU Nvidia GTX 675m using Nvidia Inspector set the Shader Clock at 420 and the Memory at 620 when you see the program you will find out what I am saying , the program is 100% legal.
The ultimate solution is buying a new gpu , just do the fix to avoid black screens and then gather money for a new gpu

Prodigy I have the same system Spec. Has to be 5 years old now. Only started with same issue perhaps 6 months ago. I reset system back to original factory settings, at least once a year. I only play PD3 flight sim on it. The system is very random BSOD, Lately the screen drops out but the game is still playing. However my system can crash under varying circumstances. Often with low GPU load, like using FB. I often though it was a sound issue. Because when it started playing up. The screen would go weird and there was a loud buzzing through the speakers. There is something strange with this issue. I think you are correct though, with software has stressed hardware into a damage state. Another thought was, loading on USB ports. As I run Yoke, Throttle and pedals from Saitek as well as Mouse and Phone charger. No external power. My first Alienware Area 51 laptop specked out. Purchased 2005. (DOA with two trips back to Florida and a tech visit) suffered after about 4 years with GPU issues. That was an unrecoverable fail. I resurrected it by baking it in oven reflow solder. About every 4 months. For an additional 3 years. The tiny fan had failed and was on external cooling, as the special build fan was no longer in production. I would Ghost the system every 6 months to a year, which would solve ALL little issues that would crop up (Probably from MS updates). Not this time. This has nothing to do with Temp though. As I can fly for hours sometimes with fans cranking 100% and my ambient room close to 90F. No issues. Then other days, looking at facebook listening to music, ambient in 60sF bam. I watch movies and nextflix on it constantly driving a Sony 48" tv via HDMI, with never a problem of crashing. It is a shame that a 3K rig has issues that can cost $600 plus to resolve. I am not a parts changer. Thus not rushing out to drop cash on guess work. My system is ag, but not to the point of axing it. I did hear one time that 3 years is about max for a well used laptop system, especially for biz use. I got 7 from Area 51, and this is close to 5. Most people get less than two years from phones. Especially Ipoop from Crapple.
