15 R3, random shutoffs after months of stuttering in game
Specs, then backstory as to I believe how I got here.
INtel i7 7700HQ @ 2.80GHz
16 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, running Driver 441.87
Zero overclocking of any kind.
Let me know if there is more I need to add.
For quite a while now, several months, my computer will seemingly stutter while playing more intensive games such as Destiny 2, Hunt Showdown, Apex Legends. My most played game during this time was Destiny 2. I'm playing, and then there is a stutter, not due to lag, in my game. I used to run the game on max settings without issue, but now I even have issues when on medium tier settings. For a while I just dealt with it because I really didn't know what to do. Games such as League of Legends, Dungeons 3, Tabletop Sim, Elite Dangerous, Divinity Original sin 2, Halo MCC do not cause this stutter issue. As of recently, after not playing games that cause this issue, I've started to want to play them and other games more. As of lately, the games that have caused this issue: Apex Legends, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Division 2. Again, several months ago not a single game would cause me issues.
What I've Done:
In the past few days, I've completely factory reset my computer, installed MSI Afterburner to watch GPU usage and GPU temperature, and I've installed HWiNFO. When running anything, I keep the Task Manager's Resource Monitor open.
What I've Found:
My computer sitting idle on desktop right now is running at 55°C. My GPU when running a game like Division 2 is running at temperatures maxing out at 90°C. My GPU clock is maxing out right now at the base 1500 MHz, shown by MSI Afterburner. When keeping the Resource Monitor open, I've witnessed what happens during the stutters. My CPU's max available usage drops from 100% down to 30%, or at least in that ballpark.
This point is when I decided to install HWiNFO. I looked at what some people do for their fan speeds, and I decided to test what managing my fans would do. I found this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/602ggp/alienware_15_r3_custom_fan_tables/df48urp/ and used option 3 that they suggested to test out how my computer runs. I did that today.
The outcome is that when playing The Division 2, my game wouldn't stutter even though my GPU was still shown to be running at 90°C. I was amazed. Kept on playing. It took not even 30 minutes run time before my computer completely crashed. Power just switched off. No warning. I booted up, and I got everything running again, then I immediately switched on the game again. After a little bit, the computer powered off again. I booted up, and now here I am.
I can add more info if requested. I'm at a loss for what to do.

Have you tried repasting your GPU?
Pull your machine apart and clean out any dust/lint from the heatsinks and fans, remove the GPU heatsink, carefully clean the GPU die, grab a decent thermal compound and do a repaste.
