15 R4, can't upgrade to Windows 10 2004 May 2020?

Has anyone with an Alienware 15 R4 successfully upgraded to Windows 10 2004?

I'm running 1909 now and I don't have the option to upgrade when I manually check for updates. Media Creation Tool says that my system is incompatible at this time but does not say WHAT is incompatible. Dell Support says it's a software issue and wants money for the answer.

Here’s the link to the windows insider. Windows will know when your device is ready but it doesn’t even have to be prepared because if I can install the newest version of windows 10 on a 14 year old pc they dropped support for, it wouldn’t make any sense why it works for me.

You just have to wait unless you want to try the beta edition of it on your settings by signing up for the beta program on your computer.

Well, I tried to sign up for the beta channel and it offered me the update then got as far as this during Windows 10 Update application:

Your PC can't be upgraded to Windows 10

Your PC settings aren't supported yet on this version of Windows 10.  Microsoft is working to support your settings soon. No action is needed.  Windows sUpdate will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically when these settings are supported.

*SIGH*  WHAT SETTINGS AREN'T SUPPORTED YET?!

I wish they would tell me what it is that I'm waiting for.  It's really annoying.  I could help test beta drivers or if the component is Open Source I could help with the code.  I'm willing and motivated and have time.  Instead I'm told by Microsoft and by you that I should "just wait" and I'm just too impatient to be happy with that solution

I'll look for these betas and see what I can do on my machine.

Thanks!

I'm kind of confused. I have a 15 r1 from 2014 but you have a 15 r4 that can't update.

Post a picture of the error. You did say your a windows insider right?

I signed up for Windows Insider again and selected the Dev channel instead of the Beta channel.  The Dev channel update was successful and now I have access to the features that I wanted (mostly WSL2).  Thanks!

If you haven't found a solution yet, try uninstalling any VM software that you may have installed. Then try to update your laptop to 2004. After the update is successfully installed, reinstall your VM software.
