17 R1, Windows 10, GPU fan not working

17 R1 GPU fan not working on Windows 10, yes on bios.

Hello people, sorry for my bad English I'm not native. Since 12 weeks more or less laptop start getting hotter and hotter and I notice the GPU fan is always turned off.

I got a problem with GPU fan when I do the test on Alienware FN+ turn on gpu fan move, so slow but move.

I have try HWinfo, fantest and another 4 programs I got always the same problem, the no detect the fans. OR they detect both fans together and when I try to make them move only the CPU fan move.

I have upgrade BIOS alienware control panel center and everythings but still not working. I try a new game and  it is impossible to play that hot. I'm gonna broken the computer.

Any solution for this?

It's hard to know exactly what the problem may be. I don't want to tell you to flash a new vBIOS as it can brick your card if it's not done correctly. If you want to try it, it's up to you.

Did you ever find out what vBIOS the card currently has, using GPU-Z?

This one?

im 200% sure it is a software problem cause i now using speedfan control software for turn on the FAN.
I need that software, other way the GPU fan is at 0% speed and alienware shut down cause temperature.

OK so that vBIOS is for the AW 18 Slave GPU. This is a special vBIOS just for the secondary card in the 18. Your card was most likely pulled from the Slave slot in an 18. This vBIOS was not designed to be run on the primary GPU so I am reasonably sure that this is your problem (hard to be 100% sure until you try a new one). I have read a few guys having fan control issues when moving the slave GPU into the master slot.

I believe the correct vBIOS for you will be 84.04.35.00.05

Have a read through this

Well my wife may have something to say about that, funny thing is that she is Spanish.

Just remember that you're flashing at your own risk. Things can go wrong, rarely but they do.

I'm no expert on flashing vBIOS' but I've done it a few times. You need to remember to disable the GPU in Device Manager before you do the flash. Good luck and I'll try to help where I can. I always flash using CMD in Windows but there are a lot of people say you should use a bootable USB drive. Up to you. If you do it through Windows, i think you do it like this;

1. Create a folder in your C: drive called NVFlash

2. Download NVFlash and extract the files to your new NVFlash folder

3. Find and Download the BIOS ROM from TechPowerUp. Place this file in your NVFlash folder. Write down the ROM name for later

4: Use GPU-Z to save your current vBIOS on the PC

5: Disable the GPU in Device Manager (I'd also turn off wi-fi to make sure there are no Windows Updates)

6: Run CMD in Administrator mode

7: Type cd C:\nvflash

8: Type nvflash64 -6 ROM_NAME.rom

9: It should run the flash. Type exit once it is complete.

10: If everything worked then you should just go back into Device Manager and enable the GPU and restart the machine.

If it fails during the flash do not restart your laptop. Keep trying to do the flash and hopefully it will work.
