17 R1, shuts down after gaming 13 minutes

I have an out of warranty Alienware 17 (2014).

Memory: 32GB
Processor: Intel Core i7-4910MQ CPU 2.90GHz[Cores 4] [Logical/Core 2]
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Single Language

It is shutting down whenever I play games after 13 to 15 minutes.

I have run a diagnostic and the below is the message :

can someone tell me what i have to do or what part i have to change.

FYI, i have done cpu and gpu thermal paste change.

also it shows me an error on memory card but i have checked the memory card and 4 of them operating normally and this is the message as below:

Is the heatsink contain a special cooling like the fridge? Might be that if yes, since the lap is 2015 model old a bit or what exactly I have to do for it. I also tried to downgrade the bios system. I have tried from A10 to A17 however still the same problem.

Can anyone help me please?

If you start a thread just make sure you put your laptop specs including what display it has and what upgrades you're trying to do and what issues it's having.

Make sure to include the Display wether it’s a matte or glossy.

Hopefully you can get this fixed and you can go back to gaming.

Wow,

See?

a simple error with the ram can cause major problems with the computer and how it operates and shares the ram with system components.

Great computer btw and 16Gb is pretty much amazing for all 2020 titles and newer.

Glad you worked it out.

The diagnostic usually does a decent job and it pointed to the memory being an issue from the start, as per my original reply.

Did you end up returning the 980M? Are you using the original GPU?

He replaced it with a 980m.

I took another look at the other forum he posted in and he put a 970M in it.

I'm just wondering what driver version he's using and if he had to use a modded one.

My mistake, from what I’ve experienced with the 17 I own still works perfectly fine without any custom modifications.

A while back it was said that Nvidia added support for the 900 series cards in these machines but I've come across a few people who still can't get newer drivers to work without being modded. I'm interested to see if he has the older 389 driver that tends to auto-install or he can get the 451 driver to work straight from Nvidia.

I don't believe that the 17 was ever released with the 900 cards while they did release them with the 18 right at the end of it's life so it has native driver support.

That driver is really really old so if you want a newer one just let me know and I will mod it for you.

There are guides on how to mod a driver but it can be a little tricky the first few times. It only takes me about 5 minutes to mod one but I just need your device ID. I'm at work though so I won't be able to do it until I get home. I already have a 451.xx driver downloaded which I have modded for a few other people for their cards.

To get this you go to Device Manager - Display Adapters - Right click on your 970M - Properties - Details - Select Hardware ID from the dropbox box. I need the first or second line of code.

Once I've modded it I will post a dropbox link that you can download. Once you've done this then I'll walk you through the steps.

If you want to learn to mod it yourself then this is a really good guide.

i have also downloaded the driver by myself without the Ge-force Software.

Driver version 970 M is 353.62-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.

i believe 970M & 980M running with the same driver for the Graphic card just to function & later you can make update for the driver for it to make the 3D run perfectly.

the Memory card am doubting that is was the issue since i remove it, however still everything works fine without it.

it can be the port of the memory stick got damaged but logically the error could be on only when the memory card is plugged.

So 50% the memory card and 50% the memory card port got damaged.

am gonna check my old GPU but am eliminating that the GPU is working fine, however i will check it might be functioning & the problem was from the first the memory :).

ill keep you updated on this, because honestly thsi issue no result for it on the internet.
