Jump to solution

I have an out of warranty Alienware 17 (2014).

Memory: 32GB
Processor: Intel Core i7-4910MQ CPU 2.90GHz[Cores 4] [Logical/Core 2]
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Single Language

It is shutting down whenever I play games after 13 to 15 minutes.

I have run a diagnostic and the below is the message :

6008143D-2CF8-43F1-A95D-0D5FFADD9F00.png

can someone tell me what i have to do or what part i have to change.

FYI, i have done cpu and gpu thermal paste change.

also it shows me an error on memory card but i have checked the memory card and 4 of them operating normally and this is the message as below:

E44FE3E7-655B-46DF-B9BB-8798D13E32B6.jpeg

Is the heatsink contain a special cooling like the fridge? Might be that if yes, since the lap is 2015 model old a bit or what exactly I have to do for it. I also tried to downgrade the bios system. I have tried from A10 to A17 however still the same problem.

Can anyone help me please?

Alien-ware 17 R1 (2015 Model) 8 Beep & GPU problem

Jump to solution
Am happy to inform you that my laptop screen was absolutely fine and the shut down was because of the GPU.

further to my issue after replacing new GPU caused 8 beep, the real issue was the "BIOS configuration" since i did a GPU is new & downgrade "6GB".

The solution is :

i connected my Laptop with HDMI cable, it has allowed me to see the screen & to enter the bios configuration, from there i had to change the Boot Mode from "Legacy" to "UEFI".

After that i had to remove to HDMI and restart, it will remain 8 beeps but you "MUST MAKE THE UEFI AS THE FIRST BOOT OPTION IN BIOS"

so now after all this steps, the computer is fine runing as normal .

Next step is :  the BIOS update , the GPU driver installation  and later at the end a stress test to the computer to check the computer performance is normal.

Re: Alien-ware 17 R1 (2015 Model) 8 Beep & GPU problem

Jump to solution

So here we go again, i have updated the GPU driver & the BIOS to the latest, i have run the Diagnostic of the Dell Alienware.

All went well Even i have Stress test everything, a part of the memory, it showed me Error : Advanced Pattern Test WME22-0HB.

At that moment it came to my mind that the issue from the beginning is the memory sticks but i didn't pay attention & i will explain you why & how it could be.

i have 4 memory card, each one 8GB, i removed the two memory cards that stick out when you open the cover & start to test by removing one by one.

when both was installed as the picture below, the error still appearing when i was running the stress & diagnostic test.

Inkedimages_LI.jpg

and when i checked one by one i find out that the memory stick showing in the laptop functional 32GB but the test was showing error.

So i removed both of them & the diagnostic & stress test went well for everything.

Am running the laptop now with the original Memory Dell cards 16GB.

the faulty memory stick cards affected my GPU & caused the damage of it from the beginning.

Now the Laptop functional 16GB memory, 6GB GPU.

I hope i helped you guys with my feedback.

OK here you go. The link will be right at the bottom of this. This driver is only for Windows 10 which I believe you are using. You have to follow these instructions perfectly and the best thing to do is to use a program called DDU to completely remove all traces of your old driver. The very least you should do is go to the Control Panel and Uninstall a Program and uninstall all the Nvidia applications. Then go into the C: drive and delete any extra Nvidia folders. They will be in your Program Files and/or Program Files (x86) folders. Once you've done this;

Step 1: Download the complete file from my Dropbox link and save it to your C: drive

Step 2: Restart the laptop with Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

Do to this hold down SHIFT and click Restart. When you get to the next screen press Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Startup Settings. You will see a list of options and the Driver Enforcement will be Option 7. Click restart.

Step 3: When it restarts press Option 7

Step 4: Go to the new Nvidia folder and find you way into the International folder. At the very bottom inside this folder you will see the Setup.exe application. Double click on this to start the Nvidia installation.

Step 5: Once it confirms that it is compatible it will begin installing but then it will stop and give you a red/white driver warning screen. Press yes or continue and the driver will install.

Step 6: Enjoy your updated driver.

It really sounds like you have a bad memory stick. I would try running with 1 stick at a time.

Re: 17 R1, shuts down after gaming 13 minutes as not (8 beeps along with black screen)

Jump to solution

It was not a memory problem, i took it for repair since the computer was on black screen on boot.

I have checked & find out that the GPU is damaged, so i have ordered one less resolution, took me 2 month to wait & when i have replace the new one in the computer, it seems am having 8 beeps along with black screen on boot (literally black but there is power in the screen White lamp)

I have realised that i did something to the bios (downgrade it because i suspected that will help the previous CPU card to function)

8 Beeps message means LCD, but here i dont see that its LCD problem since i see there is power on the screen.

so the first think that i will do, is to find out how to do blind BIOS reset, because am not able to do it normal since screen is black, is there a shortcut from the keyboard or how to do it ?

second how i reset the screen i have seen many posts regarding Shortcut "'power on + D"' button & it will reset the LCD.

Can i make it to run without GPU card, at least it has to work or via the integrated card if possible & how to do it in this situation with black screen?

Any idea guys please, am getting exhausted because of this laptop,

Do you have the 120Hz 3D display? If you do then an 8 beep error usually means a problem with the GPU as the 120hz needs an NVidia card to run. If the display can’t find a working Nvidia card then it will give you the 8 beep error. What GPU did you install?

Is it an AMD card then? There is really only Nvidia and AMD

It is important to know what display you have. Is there an Nvidia 3D sticker somewhere on the laptop? Is the display glossy or does it have a matte look?

Here’s the latest version of your bios.

Try connecting your laptop to an external display to see if you can get a picture on there. Didn’t you post a pic of your laptop with the screen on though?

Power + D key is for the B.I.S.T test or the Built in self test for the display. Your display will turn back on and it will reset itself.
