I have an Alienware 17 R2, both usb 3.0 and 2.0 hubs can't seem to handle connection of usb devices such as pendrives, external hdd and others. I can't find any solution for this.

I have same problem with you. Alienware 14

always connect and disconnect loop, some of the ports work well but some are not.

what's funny is it ok for my mouse but not for phone, thumb drive, and other storage devices.

I've just updated to the latest BIOS, it didn't help. Also the Device Manager doesn't show any problems with my USB hubs. Since I'm from Argentina I was wondering if this might be a hardware problem.

Hi!

Make sure that you are running the latest BIOS version on your systems. You can visit dell.com/drivers to confirm that. Also go to Device Manager, click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for any errors that it can show.

Hi @cheetwing!

Please send me your Service Tag via private message so we can look further into this.

I'm now also having the same issue on 17. If I restart my machine, my Samsung SSD will always show as connected. However, at some point, the machine will stop reading the drive. It will disappear from my file explorer. But, when I run the custom component test under the diagnostics tab on Dell's support site, the system recognizes the SSD as being connected - even though it still doesn't show in the file explorer. I have the most recent BIOS. No issues shown in device manager.

It's most likely the USB port you're using. Mine does the same thing, and I think it's generally with products that need a certain amount of power from the USB. There should be at least one port that works so switch to that one for the devices that require it.

I switched from USB-C port to USB-A port, and now it works fine.

I was able to resolve this issue by going into the Device properties. Then clicking the Power Management tab and un-checking the option to let your computer turn off the device to save power.

Hope this helps.

I had the same exact issue until my port finally died. I have never had this happen on another system before. But now the port will not show voltage after testing and my computer has the "power surge on USB port" icon every time I turn the computer on.
