Re: Strange wifi problem with Alienware 17 R5

In the EXACT same (dang) boat you are in...this is soooooo frustrating. Alienware 17 R5.

In the Killer Control Center settings page, I'm trying disabling the Advanced Stream Detect.  I should know by tomorrow at the latest if it has any effect.

Just had to do a reboot...but that was the first time in about 36 hours.

What is your onboard Killer NIC Card?? Curious. I had a similar issue till I upgraded my wireless card myself.

Re: Strange wifi problem with Alienware 17 R5

It's a Killer Wireless AC 1550 Wireless Network Adapter (9260NGW),

Driver Provider: Intel,

Driver Date 6/25/2018,

Driver Version 20.70.0.5

Location: PCI Slot 19 (PCI bus 68, device 0, function 0)

With "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" unchecked

Is this what you updated/replaced?

Re: Strange wifi problem with Alienware 17 R5

Had the same exact issues with my Alienware 17 R5. The registry "fix" described at the link below seems to have improved my issues a lot if not fixed them completely. I can definetly go days now where previously my laptop would start getting messed up after 24 hours. My computer came with 1809 from Dell but even though the link says it is a hit or miss fix for 1809 it has helped my situation.

Re: Strange wifi problem with Alienware 17 R5

Did you try changing your network from Private to Public first?  Because unless I'm reading it wrong, that's all the article says should be done for Windows 10 1809.

I literally just tried that today.  But I also applied a BIOS update, too.

Time will tell, I guess.  I'll post back my results over the next few days.

My system has sometimes gone long periods without problems but lately it's been every day.

Thanks for the links and info ( from you and everyone else in this forum Smiley Happy ) -- I'll try them today.

Actually replaced a 1435 Killer to the 1550 Killer, and using the beta drivers off Killers website. Fixed all my issues I was having. Was having a hard time connecting, staying connected, it would drop randomly. For $35 I upgraded to the Killer, but could have easily went with Intel.

1435 came with my 15 R3 and is absolute garbage.

Sense Upgrading, it's working as intended.. so either it was just junk, or not manufactured properly.

Re: Strange wifi problem with Alienware 17 R5

OK, I just did the Clean Install instructions for the whole Killer mess (http://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/clean-install-killer-control-center/)....

New Driver is as follows:

Driver Provider:  Intel

Driver Date: 2/27/2019

Driver Version: 21.0.0.5

...and it went smoothly (although just make sure you only delete the Temp folder contents)

I also reset my network back to Private from Public since now I seem to have the updated/latest driver.

Now, we'll wait and see....

UPDATE 4/1/2019 late morning:  So far, rock solid!

UPDATE 4/1/2019 late night:  AAAAARGH!   It busted again...:-(

I disabled Advanced Stream Detect in the Killer Control Center....starting over.....

UPDATE 4/6/2019 afternoon:  Still happening.

Next step is to go back from Private to Public network....

UPDATE 4/10/2019 afternoon:  Still happening.

(not sure what to try next)

Re: Strange wifi problem with Alienware 17 R5

I did edits to my previous post...but I'm not sure if the group gets notified.

Anyway, as my next step, I did the registry edits that were suggested for the older version of Windows 10 (1803).   We'll see if that works.
