My CPU Is Going Insane
Specs
Case : Alienware Aurora R7
CPU : i5-8400
MOBO : Dell AW Aurora R7 Z390 (I know this isn't specific but I can't find any info for the life of me, looks like this model (0VDT73 CN-0VDT73) but a Z390)
GPU : Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti
RAM : HyperX Fury 2x8G 2666 MHz
Storage : 1TB HDD (pretty sure seagate or whatever dell uses)
Windows 10
I did a hardware swap recently for my old Aurora R7 , i replaced a GPU from a 1080 to a 1050 Ti and took the Corsair H75 I installed and replaced it with the stock cooler and case fan. I took out the parts i wanted for my new build and after doing all this, my i5-8400 starting acting funky and the speed was not staying anywhere near the base speed of 2.8GHz and usage jumping from 1Ghz up to 4Ghz! My CPU cooler sounded like it was about to literally fly through the case and wall. After seeing this, I did a clean install of windows via USB and it did nothing, my speed was jumping all over the place still but my fan was keeping up so I installed SupportAssist to get Dell's drivers until my PC usage maxed at 100% for about a solid 20 secs and my fan progressively got louder until I thought something was going to break. I immediately shut it down and not have turned it on since (its still at my buddies so i'll have to wait a day or two) in fear of ruining something. I thought maybe the thermal paste job I did was poor when attaching the cooler but that makes no sense to me, i have poor knowledge of this area of PC's and i would really appreciate some insight or any input at all. I just wanna play some PC games with my buddy, show him what it's all about compared to console and just do something nice for him.
