Quick question. We have about 950 laptops/desktops that we backup. With people moving and everything else, you can imagine we have a lot of computer that need to be moved to another Avamar node (we have 2). My question is the following: We have a few clients that we have 1 or 2 backups that we have changed the retention on to "Indefinitely". If I retire those clients, all their backups will eventually be deleted, but will the one that is set to "Indefinitely"? It's critical we keep that 1 or 2 backups for those clients, but I want to be able to retire those clients if they are no longer here or have moved to another Avamar node. Thanks for any input!

It depends which option you select when you retire the client. If you select the option to maintain the existing retention (I don't remember the exact wording offhand), the backup that is currently set to indefinite retention will be kept forever.
If you are only using the system for DTLT backup, you may wish to look into the "Keep last backup" functionality. This feature prevents the last backup for a client from expiring even if it goes offline for a long time. I don't remember if the last backup for a retired client is retained so you should probably test this before relying on it.

Hello Ian
I am new to Avamar.. While retiring vmware image backup I am facing some issues.. while retiring without any error I am able to retire and the client is moved to MC\retire folder aswell.. But in next day schedule the client started running... Felt like the client is adding back while the maintenance window is running..
Kindly advise what will be the cause for this and how to retire
