Avamar- Exchange 2010 cluster configuration Fails with "The Server Cannot handle Directory Requests"

IN the cluster configuration tool when I get to the part of User Settings - I can't Use the AvamarBackupUser account. when i do it gives an error "The Server Cannot handle Directory Requests" - the user was created using the Backup User configuration tool and has all the roles and privileges as per the Documentation.
