Avamar capacity utilization 98.9%. How to find out top 10 space eating clients?

Hello,

Avamar has reached capacity utilization of  98.9%.

In order to decrease utilization, I killed backup sessions that are overlapping with maintainance window and let GC clear as much as possible. but this is not helping much.

I need to delete few backups. How to find out which are the top 10 clients that are eating maximum space?

Hi,

1. In any case call the support. Have in mind this is the question of data so the situation is serious.

2. Do not delete clients immediately. Stop backup scheduler and run the GC instead.

3. Run capacity.sh script to see top clients eating Your space.

Hi Nitin,

I have done it several times and its not very complicated.

There are several different ways to do it, depending on number of clients on your Avamar server.

Capacity.sh - this will help you to find top clients with higher change rate.

Top 3 High Change Clients:

--------------------------

Total for all clients                    72003 mb      100.0%

Testclient1                             32512 mb       45.2%

  Testclient2                              27448 mb       38.1%

  Testclient3 7526 mb       10.5%

as you can see, this command  provides you top3 clients which are most likely sending higher new data. Try to handle these clients first.

Now, you can use your activity report to find the backup size of each client.

Once all backups are completed, copy activity window to an excel sheet, and you short your clients with backup size.

Also, I would recommend to check EMC support site, you can find a KB article with steps to free up space on Avamar server.
