No Connection to Agent
Hi, I have a version 7.0.101-61 Windows client that has stopped connecting to the agent. The service is started and the login name to the service is correct but it will not connect. Rebooting the Exchange server it is on has no affect either. There is also the Exchange VSS plug-in on the server.
The AVAgent log shows entries from around the day it failed but nothing after. No new entries get added when I try to restart the client. The last entries show

2014-09-12 08:51:13 avagent Info <5405>: avagent returning with exitcode 0
The Console log just shows the following repeating over and over
2014-09-25 07:13:39 avscc Error <6658>: Unable to connect to 127.0.0.1:28002 for CTL messages
2014-09-25 07:14:36 avscc Info <0000>: get_ctl_agent_status() failed
I am trying to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling because another server reboot would be needed because of the Exchange VSS plug-in. Does anyone have the same ideas.
Thanks for any help.

It is open. There is no firewall between the client and server. I forgot to mention this was working with the current configuration.
I am trying to reactivate the client but even with it deactivated at the server the "Activate" option is greyed out in the client.
Thanks for your help!

I have gotten it working. I deactivated the client on the Avamar Grid, reactivated it and restarted the client service. It works great now.
Thanks

Hello,
I can see a KB for similar error message, and this KB also directs to check firewall.
As per KB, solution is -
Configure firewall software or device to allow communication on the loopback address on the Windows client.
I am not getting any other clue what else can cause this issue. Could you please check once with your Network team ?

Pawan

Hello,
I have the same problem with a new W2k12 host and Avamar 7.1.1-145 client and although with 7.1.0 -130 client.
The windows firewall is completely deactivated on this host, but it looks like the client (avss) can´t communicate with the backup agent service.

Restarting the backup service don´t help.
When I register the client with cli avregister, then the client appears in avamar gui, but it can´t be backup or browsed.
The client still shows "No connection to agent"
Any other idea what I can do?

Hi,
In case you have not done this, please verify you are able to ping avamar server from client, you can telnet avamar server on port 28001/28002 and nslookup is working fine too.
