is there a process to decommission a single avamar node from my avamar grid?
i have a 10 node avamar grid currently running at 50% utilization. Is there a process to reduce my grid to 6 or 7 nodes?

Unfortunately not.. it's not possible to permanently reduce the number of nodes in an Avamar system.
Support have a method to temporarily decommission a single node from a RAIN system but this is purely for maintenance purposes, typically used where there is a problem with parity or stripe distribution with the node in question.
Provided you had a large enough Avamar infrastructure one option would be to migrate the data on the 10 node system to another Avamar system with spare capacity. The 10 node system would need to be re-kickstarted and reinstalled as a smaller configuration. The backup data could then be replicated back to it and any surplus nodes could be re-purposed.
