The Mezzanine cards in M640 for connection to PERC

Hi everyone,

Are the mezzanine cards required condition for connection blade servers to PERC?

VRTX diagram.jpg

The diagram shows that PERC uses mezzanine cards for connection with blades. (I mean connection servers to RAID) The configurator on the dell website doesn't allow to choose mezzanine cards, are they included by default?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

You may want to check with sales for your country but it looks like the pcie passthrough mezzanine cards are coming standard.

Thank you for your answer! I think, If they don't include by default, servers won't to connect with shared storage, so you can't buy servers without mezzanine cards.

Thank you for your answer.

Part Number 2T0WW is a Dell Mellanox CX315A 10Gb/s Dual Port Mezzanine, so there isn't a specific bypass Mezzanine card.

If I choose a QLogic 57810-k Dual port 10Gb Card, it should be the same about enabling the communication on Fabric B with Shared Perc. Or Not?

Thank you.

Hello, yes also the PCIe QLogic 57810-k on Fabric B can be mapped  to the shared PERC.

See here for more info:

Thanks

Hi all.

On my Vertex I have a problem getting the 2 blades M640 to communicate with Shared Perc.

On the Fabric A I have a BRCM GbE 4P 5720 bNDC that works fine with  R1-2401 VRTX 1Gb Switch Module in slot A1.

The Fabric B and C are empty.

If I try to use a 10 Gb Mezzanine Card BCM95719A1905DC on slot B the blades will not come up, citing a fabric mismatch.

So the question is: how can I do to make the blade M640 communicate with Shared Perc?

Must there be a swicth in the B1 slot? There isn't a PCIe Bypass Card like for M630 Blades?

Thank you.

Marcello

When you install M640 on VRTX chassis we can not use Mezz slot for connecting any of the network mezzanine card. You need to connect 2 PCIe Mezzanine Bridge cards (Dell Part #3N9XX) on M640. Once these bridge cards are installed you can use CMC to create a virtual disk on shared PERC and assign it to the server. You can also insert PCIe card to chassis PCIe slot and connect it to the server using CMC

Refer below link for assigning shared storage to the server using CMC
