Boot from SAN migration
Hi All,
IHAC will migration AIX/Linux host from VNX to VNX by using SANCopy (ISC). The AIX/Linux host is SAN Boot on origin VNX storage. Could we use incremental SANCopy to migrate the SAN boot LUN from origin VNX to new VNX storage? Or, do we need to use other method instead of ISC?
Besides, if it is OK by using SANCopy method, any special need to take care for AIX and Linux platform. Also, any document about this?
Many Thanks.

If the new LUN on the second VNX is an exact copy (which SanCopy does create), then it should work. Maybe others here have tried this.

As you've probably found out it isn't easy nor is it straightforward. Our Linux engineer found it easier to perform a fresh install especially when Redhat informed us migrating boot from SAN isn't supported.
They wouldn't even help us with a restore over a base OS.

AIX is easy, just add another volume and use lvmirror to migrate the data. Linux is possible too but requires more steps.
