CX600 and CX3 compatibility with DAE's

I have a couple DAE's, I think they are actually called DAE2, labelled KAE p/n: 005048494 rev:A04 with 5 300GB vault drives and the rest 146GB. Can I boot up a CX600 with these and they are compatible? I dont think I have access to powerlink or emc website info on this. If I get a CX600 I can just configure it from a web browser?

How about with a cx3-40c? I have seen they use something like a DAE4P and have FLARE code 4.xxx , while the CX600 uses only up to  2.19.600.5.45 . Do my KAE boxes have the right FLARE for a CX600 ?

Lastly, would it be possibe to copy this FLARE from a a KAE to a 36GB or 73GB drive and use it with an older box I have, looks like it is an FC5300/5400 ?

Refer to KB emc154373 "Which type of Disk Array Enclosure (DAE) can be used in CX4-Series, CX3-Series, and CX-Series storage systems?" https://support.emc.com/kb/40773 (requires a registered account, no need to bind your EMC products), CX600 supports DAE2 enclosure, and CX3 supports DAE2, DAE2P, DAE3P (DAE4P) enclosures.

There is no restriction at FLARE level. But if you want to add DAE2 enclosures to CX3, you need to follow the official guide to do this to avoid any known issues (For example, to add a DAE2, DAE2P, or DAE3P disk-array enclosure to a storagesystem, you must use the Unisphere Service Manager. You can download it on support.emc.com with your "guest" account. Refer to https://community.emc.com/message/755171). You can visit CX3 support site (http://corpusweb130.emc.com/upd_prod_CX3/, free to access) to create customized step-by-step instructions guide to add these DAEs to your CX3-40:

Finally you can not simply copy a FLARE from one to another. CX600 supports the FLARE up to 02.19.600.5.045 while CX3-40's latest code is 03.26.040.5.032. Even the same release, the FLARE bundle can not be interchangeably used in all boxes:

But what I am wondering is, for the first DAE, enclosure 0, Does the CX3 need a certain FLARE level to boot up, since it doesnt have its own vault drives?

Your CX3 has no original first DAE? Well, that's a problem, you would not be able to boot your CX3 with CX600's DAE.

The OS (FLARE image) comes factory installed in the storage box. In some conditions if the vault disks gets corrupted, EMC authorized service personnel performs a re-imaging in the field. The step-by-step instructions guide can be generated by CPG (CLARiiON Procedure Generator), and the FLARE bundle or recovery image can be downloaded from EMC Service Partner Web (https://servicepartners.emc.com/restricted/index.aspx). Only EMC employees and partners can access this site. I'm afraid you have to find out its first DAE with its own vault disks.

Yes, I usually search the KBs on support.emc.com and the website generates the links with its own domain.

I dont understand what the difference is in FLARE versions if the DAE2 was originally with a CX600 or not. If the CX600 head was acquired alone, what would the difference be between the FLARE on the original DAE it was with and another, as long as its a compatible version.

DAE2 is used by all CX series (CX200/400/600). But unlike CX4, they're using different FLARE bundles. For example:

CX200: 02.19.200.5.045

CX400: 02.19.400.5.045

CX600: 02.19.600.5.045

CX300: 02.19.300.5.045

CX500: 02.19.500.5.045

CX700: 02.19.700.5.045

Can you make sure your DAE2 were used by another CX600 before?

Sure if it's the original first DAE of that CX600, or a FLARE re-image is still required.

I'm afraid there is no way...

I have heard that the CX2/4/600 is based on windows NT while the 300/500/600 is XP

Is there any way to check the FLARE on a DAE2, given that it only has a copper-FC port?

If it can boot up its original SP, certainly you can log in its console to check the version. If you just connect it to another system,  the FLARE OS on vault disks is invisible to users.

But if it was connected to a working system, it could be checked in navishpere or unisphere, etc?
