MirrorView mirror pair is seen by one array but not its peer

When viewing Remote Mirrors in Navisphere, under the array that has the primary image for one of our remote mirrors, It displays as AdminFractured. When I try to Synchronize, I get this error message:

Failed attempting to synchronize the following secondary mirror images:

The secondary mirror image on storage system SecondaryArray in remote mirror MyMirror: Internal Information Only. Unable to restart the SAN Copy Session because of an internal error.  See the event viewer for details. (0x712ac051) (I've substituted SecondaryArray and MyMirror for the actual names on our system.)

This has put this particular LUN into a kind of "no-man's land" where it's not syncing and I can't even erase the existing config and re-create the mirror:

  • I can't Synchronize the secondary image. I get the error above.
  • I can't Fracture it. I get "The Fracture function is not allowed because the image is already Administratively Fractured."
  • I can't Remove it. I get "The secondary mirror image on storage system SecondaryArray in remote mirror MyMirror:  The image specified wasn't found on the remote array.  Verify the image exists on the remote array and image data is accurate in display..  (0x71528076)"
  • From the secondary array, I can't even see it to be able to try to manage it. It doesn't show up in the list of Remote Mirrors, but it does on the primary array's list of Remote Mirrors.
  • I am also not able to create a new mirror; the desired LUN does not show up in the primary array's list of LUNs I can mirror.

Basically, the primary array thinks it's already part of a remote mirror, and the secondary array somehow "forgot" that this remote mirror even exists. What can I do to get this LUN back into a state where it is being mirrored from the primary array to the secondary array?

Hi,

What is the Mirrorview connection type, is that iSCSI or FC ? Did you check the Mirrorview connections are fine, if they are logged in on both Arrays?

If it is a iSCSI, check if the ports 3260 are open on both the ends ?

Thanks

Madhu

It's iSCSI, and each array is showing that the other is logged in on both SP A and SP B.

Nothing has changed regarding network connectivity between the two arrays, and there are a couple dozen other mirrors configured the same way that are operating normally. There's just this weird situation with one of the mirrors that occurred without any configuration change having been made.

I am now getting one of these same errors on an additional mirror when I try to resync it. On this other mirror, however, both the primary and secondary array display it in their respective lists of Remote Mirrors. I get the same error whether I attempt the resync from the primary array or the secondary array:

The secondary mirror image on storage system SecondaryArray in remote mirror MyOtherMirror: Internal Information Only. Unable to restart the SAN Copy Session because of an internal error.  See the event viewer for details. (0x712ac051)

What does this error (0x712ac051) mean, and where can I find more information about it?

See if this helps:

The following is a Primus(R) eServer solution:

ID: emc140381

Domain: EMC1

Solution Class: 3.X Compatibility

Fact       Product: CLARiiON CX Series

Fact       EMC SW: SAN Copy

Fact       EMC SW: MirrorView/Asynchronous

Symptom

Attempt to synchronize the async mirror results in an 'unable to restart the SAN copy session' error message.

Symptom    Error message like the following:

SANCopyAdmin 712ac051 Internal Information Only. Unable to restart the SAN Copy Session because of an internal error. See the event viewer for details. Illegal copy type (Operation 0) to restart. DescID 32.
B 05/02/06 20:39:51 4600 'Synchronize' called by 'abcdfg' (123.45.67.89) on 'Mirror mirrENTFSS003_ed1028, Image 50:06:01:60:B0:60:33:B5' (Result: Failure). Could not synchronize remote mirror image.. [0x712ac051] Internal Information Only. Unable to restart the SAN Copy Session.

Fix        If you cannot synchronize a mirror because of a 712ac051 error, remove the mirror from the group if the mirror is a part of the group. Then force destroy the image on the primary and secondary array. Finally recreate the image. The mirror will take some time to synchronize because the previous actions will result in a full resync.

I was able to fix the second (newest) mirror that had the 0x712ac051 error by removing the secondary image and re-adding it, but the first (older) mirror still shows the symptoms from my original post. I'm unable to remove the secondary image or really do anything with it...still stuck.
