Removing DAE's to have more space..

Hi All,

We have a cx3-80 which is at the DR site and the box is out of space. We are not able to expand the file systems .We already have 32 enclosures and 480 disks . So there is no option to add another SATA DAE.

Could you please suggest me what is the option to over this come this situation ?

1. Can we completely remove all the drives in a particular enclosure and then add new higher capacity SATA drives ?

If so can you please suggest how to acheive this as this is an emergency situation  .We are not able to expand any file systems.

i can imagine you could take 1TB SATA drives that comprise a particular raid group, delete LUNs that reside on that raid group, delete raid group itself and replace the drives with 2TB SATA drives. If you are going to do that, think about the hot spare too ..as you will need one to spare for 2TB drives.  Are these LUNs used by Celerra ?

We have 32 enclousres and cx3-80 will only support 32 enclosures and 480 drives

All the slots in all the enclosures are all populated with drives and there are no free drives on this clariion  will CX3-80 support 2 T B drives ?

Thanks

Hi

I appreciate emc guys help for this issue.

We are already having 32 enclosures n CX3-80 and all the slots in that enclousures are full with drives.

Will the enclosures support 2tb SATA drives ?

How can we upgrade the drive . do you mean to say remove all the 15 drives in the enclosure and replace it with high space 2TB SATA drives.

What will happend for the data on that enclosure which we are blowing it off ?

Hi Maddy Krish,

You can perform drive upgrade!!!

Make sure Enclosure Chassis Part No. support 2TB SATA drives…

Check 2TB SATA Drive Support with your current FLAIR version…

Number of HOTSPARE per drives… if you are upgrading only one enclosure then 1 HS is sufficient…

Thanks,

you can either remove all 15 drives, or just the drives that make up one raid group. In order to remove drives, you have to delete the raid group, LUNs that reside on that raid group ..so yes ..all data will be gone. If this is a Celerra unit you have to be very careful, better call EMC support if you are not sure.

Hi the file system is built of ATA drives and is gettig space from clarata_archive pool.

we have targeted to replaced drives on enclsoure 1_7 which is fully populated with SATA drives. The raid groups on this enclosure comprises DR NAS luns. So kindly adivce me how can we empty this enclosure.

The luns on enclosure 1_7 are DR NAS luns.Do we need to migrate these DR NAS data or replace drives induvidually on the raid groups on enclousure 1_7.

Which is the safe and best procedure ? Please advice. If migration is the option then how can we migrate the DR NAS data on those enclosures ?

Thanks

Hi Krishna,

You mentioned the enclosure 1_7 has DR NAS LUNs ... (May be Data only Luns or both Data and Control LUNs for NAS). However, migrating the LUNs used by NAS may not be an easy option.

I 'll suggest you to kindly get in touch with your local EMC Technical Resource to have a detailed discussion on your situation and requirement. It may be bit difficult to advice you properly on the forum.

My 2 cents
