Replace standby power supply from cx4 to cx3

Hi,

Unfortunately I do not have much knowledge about the EMC Clariions but let me try out this forum perhaps the answer is simple.

We have two clustered Clariion systems, a clustered CX4-120 and and a clustered CX3-10c, by clustered I actually mean a primary location that is replicated to a secondary location.

Here is the problem, the CX4 is not used anymore and the CX3 will be out of service in a couple of months, there is no support on the CX3.

The CX3 has both standby power supplies faulted and the idea is to replace these with the ones from the CX4.

I can hear you think, IDIOT but who am I tell you otherwise

From what I can see the standby power supplies are the same, perhaps the one from the CX4 has more power (A) but the output is the same.

Here comes the question(s):

- Can I use the SPS from the CX4 in the CX3

- What is the procedure to replace these with the systems online

No I am not sure about this. I have seen cases where it works but there also times it gives out battery testing alerts too. So I would not recommend this as it does not show up compatible in Parts Guide.

In a gist, it can replace but its not compatible.

UL1st Edition makes it compatible from which I can say that it can replace. However, difference in W is something I am not sure that How it would impact, if any.

What is the Part Number of the SPS in CX4?

What is the FLARE Version and SPS Part Number used in CX3?

- What is the procedure to replace these with the systems online

Follow the Procedure Generator (SPS Replacement for step by step instructions)

Hi Ankit,

Thanks for your answer and info.

The Flare version on the CX3 is 03.24.010.5.011

The part numbers for the CX3 and CX4 are

CX3

p/n 078-000-062

CX4

p/n 078-000-064

It doesn't show under matrices directly that you can replace 078-000-064 instead of 078-000-062. However, both SPS are UL 1st Edition so I reckon, we might be able to replace it.

Hardware Notes:

078-000-064 is a UL 1st Edition part. UL1st Edition parts can replace UL 1st Edition parts. UL1st Edition parts cannot replace UL 2nd Edition partsexcept in North America

078-000-062 is not a 2nd Edition certified part number. UL2nd Edition part number can replace UL1st and UL2nd edition part number.  UL1st edition part number cannot replace UL2nd edition part number except in North America.               UL1st edition can replace UL1st edition

True. I missed that part completely, my bad. In that case, you can not replace  CX3's 1000W SPS with CX4's 1200W SPS.

I think the only difference is that the CX3 powersupply is a 1000W unit and the CX4 a 1200W unit.

Hi Ankit,

The 1200W version has more capacity but the output for the shelves and sp's should be the same.

Are you sure this will not work?
