SAN Copy Reserve Lun Pool

Hi All,

We are migrating around 90 luns from CX700 to CX480 using SAN COPY incremental. So My question do we need to create reserve lun for each lun ?or can we can we create few luns with larger size and add to reserve lun pool ?

Thanks

i think if you are on flare 22 and higher the pool is shared, otherwise you have to configure reserved pool for each SP.

The reserved LUN pool works with SAN Copy to perform incremental copy operations. It consists of one or more private LUNs. The reserved LUN pool is shared by both storage-system SPs, and before starting an incremental SAN Copy session, the pool must contain at least one LUN for each source LUN that will be participating in an incremental session.

So you mean to say for 90 luns we should have atleast 90 luns in reserved lun pool?

At least. As you may know a single LUN in the RLP can be filled up to 100%. When that happens you need a new LUN to continue. If you only have 90 LUN's and all of them are actually in use and 1 fills up to 100%, there's no new empty LUN available and the snapshot for this 1 particular LUN will stop working.

if you are planning to perform incremental copies ..then yes, you need 90 LUNs in reserved pool.
