Solaris 8 unable to see LUNS FROM CX4-240
Hi All,
Today we have assigned LUNS those are target luns for the SANCOPy luns from cx700. The luns are not visible on the solaris box.
We then assigned another lun which is newly created from cx4 and still the server is not able to see the luns form the cx4.
We had the source luns removed from the solaris host before we intiated sancopy, Then we reassigned those luns back to the host.
solaris host is again able to see the luns from the cx700. We did assign again CX4 luns but we dont see them.
We have QL23X hba and solaris has 4.4.13 san foundation. We have 5.1 powerpath.
EMC has spent almost 4 hours on this and we still dont have idea wh are not able to see the LUNS.
We have made entries in the QLxx.conf file for the new Array WWNS and also SDF.conf has 258 lun entries.
IF any one has seen this issue and informationon this would be great help for us

Hello Governer,
Just to make sure I fully understand your environment:
You have two Clariions attached a Cx700 and a Cx4 to a but standalone Solaris 8 host.
You can see source devices on the Cx700, but cannot see any devices from the CX4.
You have connectivity to the CX4 and can see the host logged in and green icon under the connectivity status. (Blue would indicate connectivity but not a member of a storage group).
A few more queries in regards the host (Im sure you've done most of this already but I have to ask..)
If you are using persistent binding have you tried turning it off to see if this is where your issue resides?
You know the cXtXdX of each device being presented and have ensured there are corresponding entries in the sd.conf file for each LUN.
Have you run a grabfile on the host? (Grab tool can be downloaded from ftp.emc.com/pub/emcgrab/Unix) and run it through HEAT in powerlink?
Can you see LUNZ in INQ (at least this would indicate connectivity is good) .. Inq can be seen in the expanded grab output.
If both Clariions are attached at the same time, have you tried ensuring each array is presenting at least one LUN to the host?
Are you in a position to reconfigure reboot the host?
Hope this helps,
Nollaig

In Navisphere, look at the Storage group for the host and look at the LUNs in the storage group - each LUN has a ALU number - this is the array LUN number. Each LUN also has a HLU number - the host LUN number - if you do not have a HLU 0 (zero) the array will provide a LUNZ to the host. Once you add a LUN to the storage group and manually assign the HLU number (click in the HLU column before you Apply) 0 (zero), the LUNZ will disappear and be replaced by the LUN. See Primus emc65060 and emc152477.

Hi Glen,
Thanks for your valuable Advise. I think articles detail me the issue of LNZ.
We would reboot and see if that goes from the List.
But currentlty before Reboot I see

Hi Nolliag,
Thanks for helping here.
We have persistant Binding and once I used the Scli qlogic management software I am able to bind the HBA. But one interesting thing is that now we are not able to format the disks.
Here is the output what I see from scli. I dont have LUN 0 which is coming from my CX4 and the size shows 16 TB plus. This is some thing I am wondering what exaclty it means.
The LUN 200 and 201 are loking good and shows when I issue Format Command but unable to format them. I will attach the out put for your reference too.

Finally I have question
a) Why is the LUN showing as LUNZ
b) what is this LUN 0 of 16444 GB coming From.
c) What is that protecting us from formatting

Hello Governer,
The LUNZ that you see is en empty LUN which is presented to the host to indicate you have connectivity. It is an empty LUN and you will not be able to format it as it is not a real physical disk. Once you have assigned LUNs to your storage group and followed the articles Glen has listed above the LUNZ should disappear and you should be good to go.
