Solaris - Corrupt label; wrong magic number

People,

This error appears on a Solaris server. This LUN doesn't belong to the CLARIION, right? The WWN of SP that this LUN belongs to should appear, right?

ih-ora11 console login: Jul 17 20:24:26 ih-ora11 scsi: WARNING: /scsi_vhci/ssd@g60060160b671210000ec7155cb77df11 (ssd33):

I think that is from a CLARiiON or at least some EMC array. The WWN like a MAC address has vendor specific codes and 60:06:01:60 is EMCs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wide_Name has the full list.

EDIT: I read the wikipedia entry too quickly. The WWN will have a 5 or 6 as the first byte and then the next three bytes determine the vendor. The 00:60:16 is from CLARiiON. For Sym it is 00:60:48.

So in the number 6006016044212600e6ed42f85ed4de11 we see that it is from a CLARiiON.

Leandro,

Also looking at the WWN (UID) of a LUN, I don't see anything in it to tie it to a particular array WWN. The only commonality that I see is the CLARiiON specific bytes that I referenced in the previous post.

Aran,

Thank you, I have to look and see if this error is a problem with disk access our storage!

Tks!!!!

My understanding is that when you get a "magic number" error you need to contact SUN to resolve.

The following is a Primus(R) eServer solution:

ID:  emc131220
Domain: EMC1
Solution Class: 3.X  Compatibility

Goal       What is the meaning of 'corrupt label;  wrong magic number' in /var/adm/messages on a Solaris  server?

Fact       OS: Solaris

Fact       Product:  Symmetrix

Fact       Product:  CLARiiON

Symptom    Corrupt label - wrong magic  number

Symptom    Solaris Host displays "corrupt label - wrong  magic number" in /var/adm/messages file.

Example:

Mar 13 10:44:27 sunora01 scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING:  /pci@8,700000/fibre-channel@5/sd@0,0 (sd48):
Mar 13 10:44:27 sunora01 Corrupt  label; wrong magic number

Fix        The message means  that a disk does not have a Solaris label on it yet.  The disk in the message is  sd48.  This can be associated with its corresponding CTD device in the output  of ls -Ralsi dev.  (In this case sd48 corresponded to  c2t5d2.)  A label can be written to the disk by means of the label option under  the format command.
