resize (grow) lun in rhel 5.5 without reboot?

Hi,

We are using rhel 5.5 with clariion cx4-240 array.

I have searched and dug on this, but cannot find a firm, working answer.

We are using lvm for volume management.

I would like to know how, specifically to add space to an existing LUN without unmounting the lun or rebooting the system.

It is very easy to do this in Windows, I believe there must be a way to do it in Linux.

Thanks,

Jim

If you can get the system to rescan the bus and recognize there are now new extends on the PV, you can use pvresize to extend the physical device, then extend lv with lvextend.

I need to do this exact thing.  Does anybody have a step-by-step process?  We don't use PowerPath, we use "multipath".  As near as I can it should be:

#  pvscan

# pvresize

# lvextend  (or lvresize)

# fsadm (?)

Is there a manual that explains this process from end-to-end?

You can always refer to RHEL's offical guide:
