Is it possible to change the CIFS name (NetBios name)?

local groups will remain intact if that's what you are asking.

a last very important question,

what about the already user mapped? I mean I already mapped all WINDOWS 2000 DOMAIN ACCOUNTS.

after this procedure do I have to re-mapped the WINDOWS 2000 DOMAIN ACCOUNTS using lgdup tool?

Fabio.

if you follow procedure that was posted earlier, everything will remain intact, share permissions, NTFS permissions.

Hi Ernes,

I just completed the procedure and it looks like everything worked properly. Now I'm changing the IP address but I guess this is an easy operation.

if the new interface has been created, go in into CIFS server properties and put a check mark next to the new IP and uncheck the old one.

Fabio, just follow the steps from start until finish using CLI. Once you are done with all the steps go ahead and test access to the share. You can't just complete one CLI command and perform the test. The screenshot I presented above; follow those steps and you will not have any issues at all. I've done it many times and never ran into any issues

Sorry for the late reply Fabio. I was out all day today. Are you all set now? Dynamox replied so you should be good.

For future reference. You cannot change an IP on an interface that is being used. So if you have an interface that is being used by CIFS or Celerra Replication you have to make sure that the interface is not in use (uncheck the IP address under the CIFS server's properties page for example), change the IP on the interface and then go back and reconfigure CIFS/Replication.

I am getting below error but i am sure there is not a typo

server_cifs server_2 -rename -netbios AXOH0010FSTEST AXOH0010FSOLD

server_2 :

Error 2213: server_2 : AXOH0010FSTEST : invalid name specified

The procedure from KB worked perfect.

I was actually trying to find out an easier one or two step process and was wondering why -rename parameter wasn't working and got to know from EMC that it works only with older code versions.

Thanks Rainer

The reason for the steps is that we cant change a compname for a CIFS server that is joined to a domain directly.

So we need to unjoin and delete, rename the NetBIOS name and then re-create and re-join

rename alone would work in other scenarios
