NS-120 - /nas/sbin/model reports "NS40G"
I'm currently working with an EMC tech to troubleshoot issues with an NS-120. We are repeatedly getting "Query hardware components All. Invalid component information :BackendResume:Power:Name:Power C:EMC_PART_NUMBER:071-000-523 (etc)" warnings in the Status area of the Celerra Manager Web GUI.
Looks to be a power supply.
Anyways, when the tech was doing the normal status checks of the SAN he ran:
/nas/sbin/model
which returned:
NS40G
The tech asked if we were truly working on an NS-120. I'm sure we are, but he sure we weren't after seeing this.
He also ran /nas/sbin/serial, which returned a completely different S/N than what is listed in the Celerra manager Web GUI, which ALSO led him to believe it was a different SAN than what I was talking about.
Is this normal for an NS-120 to return a model# of NS40G when running this command?

that is not normal, make sure he dials-in into the right system.

Hi,
this shouldn't happen.
NS-120 reports itself as a NS-120 as expected :
[nasadmin@CSNS120 ~]$ /nas/sbin/model
NS-120
Check the serial number ( /nas/sbin/serial ), and make sure you are on the right system, as dynamox said.
You can also try this one :
[nasadmin@CSNS120 ~]$ nas_storage -i id=1 |egrep "model_num|captive_storage"
model_num = CX4-120
captive_storage = True
The above output shows it's a CX4-120 on the backend, and it's a captive model ( aka integrated ).

well...there are several things to check...
I suggest you to open a support ticket, or contact you local EMC representative.

very odd, can you run "nas_storage -l" , how many systems do you see listed ?

Thanks for the responses.
That's a little disconcerting as we definitely sold the customer an NS-120 w/EMC professional services (so EMC shipped, racked, installed and configured it). I'm looking at the BoM right now and NS-120 is all over it - no mentions of NS40G.
OK, my experience with EMC products is... very minimal, so bear with me
The tech asked me to connect PuTTY to the SAN, so I SSH'd into the Celerra control station *(this is correct... right?)*:

Here's the output of the command you mentioned:

model_num = CX4-120
captive_storage = False

/nas/sbin/model again returns NS40G
/nas/sbin/serial returns a different serial number than what is in the Celerra manager GUI

I'm definitely going to contact our EMC rep. This is actually the 3rd rather strange issue on this SAN (could not re-IP the SP's with CSA or script, and the invalid component warnings - now this).
Here's the output from the command you mentioned, Dynamox:
[nasadmin@hoidpns01cs0 ~]$ nas_storage -l
id acl name serial_number
1 0 APM0010200XXXX APM0010200XXXX
X'd out the last 4 on the name/serial. Both name and serial are exactly the same.
