Preview File System for DeDuplication

Recently we have upgraded our NAS code to latest one.
We got new Feature of DeDuplication.
But we are not able to find any PREVIEW Option for DeDuplication.
Anybody knows how to get the Preview of how much Data is Duplicated currently?
Thanks,
Ashish K

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

But We need to preview Data DeDuplication Statistics before applying it.

i.e. After applying DeDupe to that File System, how much Space we will

save?

Thanks & Regards,

Ashish K

When you say Preview option, Do you mean to say the info on how much data is deduped etc....

you can try this command in that case.

$fs_dedupe  -info { -all | | id= }

As far as I know you can't have a peview of the dedupe for the file system, Once applied only it will provide you the details.

It depends on the data present on the file system, I suggest you to go through the document which is available on powerlink for details on deduplication.

you can always disable dedupe if it does not give you the results you expected or causes performance issues.

Hi,

as said, unfortunately there is no preview for dedupe.

There would be no issue in enabling it. Even if you are not satisfied with the results, you can safely disable it, "reduping" and uncompressing all files.

But, if you have concerns, one option is to "clone" the file system with Celerra Replicator, and enable dedupe on the clone. This will give you an idea on how much space you would save, and also evaluate the performance impact ( I can say I have never seen one case where performance impact was used to decide disable it ).
