Sharedup error: Error=0x00000005: NetShareEnum:Access is denied

Jump to solution

Hi Folks,

I'm having a problem with sharedup.  I am trying to copy several hundred shares from a celerra to vnxe platform.  When I run sharedup I get the following error: Error=0x00000005: NetShareEnum:Access is denied.  Here is my command: sharedup.exe \\celerra-file-server \\vnxe-fileserver ALL /SD.

I suspect this is a problem with the celerra because if I use a different source file server i.e. a file server from a vnx or vnxe system the command works without error.  All file servers are connected to the same AD domain, using the same AD account when running the sharedup command.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Let me know if you need further info...

Thanks!

there you go, somebody might need to add your account to local admin group or run sharedup with another account that has admin rights on that CIFS server.

The AD account that I am using to execute sharedup belongs to both domain admins and the administrators group.  I tried to replicate the problem against a source vnx, and vnxe where the command worked by removing admin rights, and it still worked.  The AD account that I am using can see the shares (but cannot access the shares) on the celerra via UNC path.  Sharedup should be able to read the shares using the same account credentials?

So this account that you are using to run sharedup, while logged-in with this account you can use computer management MMC, connect to the CIFS server and browse CIFS shares, look at share permissions etc ?

Is there an explicit “deny” permission on the shares?

Actually no, I just tried this and for the celerra and when I try to browse the shares I get the following error: "you do not have permissions to see the list of shares for windows users".

Yes, adding my account to the local admin group worked.  Thank you for your help!
