Is it possible to remove a 300GB SATA disk from a compellent (e.g. SC4020) and pin it into another compellent (e.g. SC4020)? And if, so are there particular steps to follow?

Refer to page 288 of the Dell Storage Manager 2018 Administrator's Guide on how to Release a Disk

Once the disk is ready to be removed then you should be able to move it to the other system, as long as it is a model and firmware recognized by the other system.
