SC7020 Virtual Port unassigned to the Physical Controller
Hello Everyone, Every physical port will be assigned a virtual port when it comes to Virtual Port mode in Sc Series. Do we need to add the virtual port manually or does it get assigned automatically ? The virtual port is being added for port no 1 for both the Controllers but not for other ports in the Controller. I have connected all of them via the SAN switch as recommended . The virtual port mode is not being assigned in my case for Dell Sc7020.

For every one physical port there should be one virtual port attached to it. If you have more than this it is due to the issue you had previously. You will need to contact support to have them delete the extra virtual ports. There is no other way to correct this.

In the picture you sent previously showing Fault Domain 4 you can see that both the Top and Bottom controller Slot 1 Port 2 are connected in to the Fault Domain. Each one has a Virtual Port attached, but are not active. Your cabling diagram matches this configuration. But when you look at the picture posted from July 23rd Fault Domain 3 shows both ports 1 and 2 from the Bottom Controller connected, AND you have 4 Virtual Ports attached to each Physical Port. You need to call in to support and work with them on deleting unnecessary Virtual Ports as well as verifying your cabling. It also appears you deleted Fault Domain 4 which had been configured correctly.
I do not think I can assist you much from screen shots. It is best to call support to have them delete the unused Virtual Ports since that is not an item any user can perform.

Hello Joshi_Sushant,
Select the Hardware Tab, and expand each of the controllers. Then select the IO cards, and select FC. Below each Green Physical Port should be a Blue Virtual Port. I do not think these will show since the ports show as down in the Storage View. First verify your switch zoning is correct. WWN zoning should be like this:
a. Compellent “Physical” Zone
All Compellent “Physical” Port WWNs
b. Compellent “Virtual” Zone
All Compellent “Virtual” Port WWNs
c. Server Zone
All Compellent “Virtual” Port WWNs + 1 Server Port WWN
If you do not have one of the zones then perhaps they are not communicating properly.
To reset the port You have 2 options. You can either unplug each port from the back of the controller, wait 20 seconds, and reconnect them. This will allow each port to reinitialize. The other option is a restart of each controller to allow each port to relogin to the switch.

Hello Bob, Thank you for your help. I have successfully discovered the virtual port as my physical connectivity to the SAN switch was wrong and the second thing was I did not enable the NPIV in both of my SAN switch.
The problem that I have been facing now is that each physical port will be associated with a single virtual port as far as I know but in my case I have two Fault Domain i.e Fault Domain 1 and Fault Domain 2.
In Fault Domain 1 there are two physical ports Controller-A-Port1 and Controller-B-Port1 but the problem is they are displaying total of 4 virtual ports in an single Fault Domain and the same thing in Fault Domain 2. There should only be 2 virtual port ? or the 4 virtual port which is being displayed is correct ?
Thank you for your information .

Bob, I have been facing another issue where all the virtual port Controller are being assigned to the Bottom Controller once I restarted the Top Controller and it will get assigned to the Top controller if I restart the Button Controller ?

Hello Bob,
I came to find out the solution for my this particular problem. The problem was mainly because we re-balanced the port by shutting down all the ports connected to Controller A.
Thank you for all your help !
