SCV2080 can't add unassigned disk

Hi Guys,

We have a SCv2080 we are just doing the initial config for now.

All is well except we were doing some testing and released some disks, this moved it to the unassigned folder.

We now can't seem to add these unassigned disks back to the disk folder / pool.

Latest firmware etc

I can't seem to see anyway to assign it back as explained in the documentation, am i missing something?

Short follow up, I called Dell that day and they helped me very well! I didn't had SupportAssist enabled (no internet available for the SAN) so I had to use the console cable and putty application. They took over my screen and typed in the commands. (see below, commands are in green).

In my situation it was disk 7 that was unassigned and that had to be attached to parent folder 3. This will off course be different in your situation!

Did it complete the RAID rebalance from moving them to the unasigned before  you tried to re-add them? That's all I can think of why it won't let you add them back yet.  Otherwise, the SCv2xxx is a slightly feature limited version of the SC series and maybe there's something in there blocking you from re-adding. If what I mentioned isn't the fix, I'd call support.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

Yes it completed a rebalance i've also tried a rebalance manually and a few other things i can think of.

We are happy to blow away the current pool and just let it recreate the array itself etc as we are just in testing.

Is their an option to do this?

Thanks in advance

Just to follow this one up, we had dell log on remotely and add the disks back to the pool, looks like this should be able to be added back via the GUI but for some reason can't, they were able to do it via command line simple enough.

I have the exact same problem with a Compellent SCv2020 with latest firmware. After a half year they still did not address this bug. This is ridiculous, I have to call support to add a disk to a pool?

We always used PowerVaults, but because of high delivery times Dell suggested us Compellent. This is the first time I have used it and am absolutely not happy with this product..

We are facing this same problem, but cannot follow these suggested steps as per below:

sn17739>disk show

2060 Disk[105] License Check Failed. System already has [92] managed disks and is licensed for only [80]

Is it a bug ? How can I fix it ? Note: This Compellent asset doesn't have warranty support and this issue started after replace a faulty disk (03-017).

Please your help.

Hi,

The system message clearly says "System already has [92] managed disks and is licensed for only [80]".

This is not the same problem as the one I had. I think the only way to fix your problem is to remove 12 disks or upgrade your license.

Bram

You have to press the "release disk" button in the GUI and have to wait until the system have to evacuate all data from that disk. It can be a long process.
