Cisco 9148's and Cisco blade 9124e's - Enabling NPIV
We have a VNX 5700 and (2) Cisco 9148 FC switches for hosts to attach. We also have a wide range of HP blades and FC connectivity from Cisco 9124e switches.
Now, my question regarding NPIV enabling. For whatever reason the engineer enabled NPIV on Cisco 9148 "B" (2nd obv) but did not do so on "A" (first obv). Would I introduce any possible issues to our environment/hosts by enabling NPIV on node "A"?
Same on the blade 9142e switches. Would I introduce any issues by enabling NPIV there as well?
All attached hosts are either Windows or Solaris.

no issues enabling NPIV on another 9148, it's an online process.
Is this a brand new installation as far as 9124e is concerned ?

Is this a brand new installation as far as the 9124e is concerned? No, we have (4) of those switches (2 HP blade c-class enclosures) that attach to the 9148's. Is it the same 'no issue' on enabling this feature on the 9124e's?

so you have two options when connecting 9124e to 9148
1) you run switching in normal switch mode, you create VSAN on 9124 , connect them to 9148 ..VSANs merge and you are good to go (for this you don't even need to enable NPIV on 9148)
2) (this is my favorite option, this is what i do with my enclosures). You enable NPIV on 9148 (this is non-disruptive), you then enable NPV on 9124 (please note that this is very disruptive for 9124e, existing configuration will be deleted from the switch. It's not an issue for new switches but it's a big deal if you already have hosts using this enclosure). Why do you like option #2 ? It's because when you enable NPV, this switch become a "hub" if you will, it does not participate in the fabric the same way switch participates in #1. It's much easier to manage and support.

ok, so you are going with option 1 , you don't even need to bother with enabling NPIV ..it's not going to be used in your scenario. Make sure VSAN id are unique or VSANs will not merge.

The VSANs are already created:
9148-A - vsan 10
9148-B - vsan 20
9124e-A - vsan 10
9124e-B - vsan 20
